The decision by Matungulu East MCA Wilson Kasimu Mukewa to contest the area parliamentary seat has brought an interesting twist to the region’s politics.

Mr Mukewa, who is a staunch supporter and key ally of Governor Alfred Mutua has confirmed he will contest the seat currently held by Stephen Mule on a Maendeleo Chap Chap party ticket.

The announcement comes barely a month after another MCA, Salome Magdalene Ndawa of Matungulu West ward declared interest in the same seat. Salome will contest on New Democrats party ticket.

Mukewa who was elected in 2013 through a Wiper ticket is among MCAs who decamped to MCC after the fall out between Dr Mutua and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

Observers say Mukewa’s entry into the race is likely to frustrate Mule’s reelection campaigns as he (Mukewa) is believed to command Matungulu East ward which was largely considered one of Mule’s political strongholds.

Others in the race include Businessmen Charles Kilonzo, Thomas Musau and Paul Mukulima.

Also in the contest are Senator Johnstone Muthama’s personal assistant, Peter Makau and Kangundo Knut branch executive secretary, Danniel Nginga.
