Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has declared he will vie for the country’s top seat in the 2022 general election.
Speaking during his swearing in ceremony on Monday at the Karisa Maitha Stadium, Kingi, who will not be eligible to vie for governor in 2022, said he wants to ensure that independence hero Katana Ngala’s dream of Kenya having a president from the Coast region is fulfilled. He, however, said he will consult with his Mombasa counterpart Hassan Joho, who has also declared interest in the seat."Although the late Ngala did not succeed in his efforts, today another chance for Coast is coming up. I want to declare officially that either I or my brother Joho will be in the presidential ballot in 2022,” said Kingi.Kingi said that they will go for a retreat after Joho is inaugurated, adding that they will make public their agreement after the retreat.Joho will be sworn in today (Tuesday) at Mama Ngina Drive, in an event that NASA leader Raila Odinga is expected to attend.
