Another Member of Parliament allied to the oppositions Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has declared an interest in the Nairobi gubernatorial post.
Speaking on Radio Jambo Wednesday evening, Dagoretti North lawmaker Simba Arati said that he will be in the race for the seat currently held by Governor Mike Sonko in the 2022 general elections.
He urged city residents and fellow leaders to back his bid, maintaining that he is the best replacement for Sonko.
"I will vie for Nairobi Governor and I urge everybody to rally behind me in my bid," he said.
The vocal legislator also poked holes into Sonko's leadership, noting that the county chief has demonstrated an inability to steer the city to prosperity.
Citing poor garbage and litter management in the county, the vocal leader advised Sonko to take responsibility or give room for a change of guard.
"The county government has been unable to address among others the garbage menace. The governor should step aside and allow us to bring in an able administration if he cannot make improvements," said Arati.
A similar declaration has since been made by his Emabakasi East counterpart Babu Owino, who also hails from the opposition block and is also likely to vie in the same race.
