The Democratic Party of Kenya (DP) plans to call a National Delegates meeting to endorse President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election.
Organising Secretary Njagi Kumantha said although the party did not dissolve to officially join President Kenyatta's Jubilee Party, DP will rally behind his re-election bid.
“We held our national delegates’ conference in December 2015 and agreed to support the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto, the stand has not changed,” he stated on Wednesday.
Kumantha, who is vying the Embu Governor’s seat, was speaking at Whispering Hills Hotel when he issued nomination certificates to contestants for various seats in Embu County.
The announcement by the party which was founded by former President Mwai Kibaki, comes a day after Party of National Unity (PNU), declared to re-endorse Kenyatta’s re-election.
The Head of State was formally endorsed as Jubilee Party flag bearer at Bomas of Kenya on Sunday.
Five friendly parties; Maendeleo Chap Chap, Narc Kenya, Kenya Patriotic Party and Economic Freedom Party, attended the event to seek their endorsement for his re-election.
