The anticipated renovations at the Nakuru Players Theatre expected to cost the county Sh15 million might just be another scandal to hit Governor Kinuthia Mbugua's administration.
This is after it emerged that the contractor who was to complete the work has not been paid, something that has raised questions on whether the facility will be fully renovated.
The county government earlier this year had revealed that there was a lump Sh15 million set aside to renovate the facility.
The funds were supposed to be used on renovation and establishment of a modern recording studio to empower the youths in Nakuru as well as neighbouring counties.
However a check at the facility reveals that little has been done.
According to the Nakuru Players Theatre Chair Collins Oduor, the renovation done so far was reroofing, fixing the ceiling board, painting and replacing the doors for modern ones.
He however noted that the work done so far cannot consume even 10 million.
"We want to thank the county government for the renovation but let us not cheat ourselves that this has costed even Sh10 milion," said Odour.
When asked about the construction of a modern recording studio at the facility, he revealed that this might take sometime.
"On the issue of the modern recording studio, I must say it is a dream in waiting since even the contractor is yet to come on the scene," he said.
The key issue is on transparency and accountability over the whole renovation process and why the contractor has not been paid so far.
