Up to Sh8 billion tax payers money might be lost in another 'scandal' that is being unmasked in the Ministry of Health.

Details of the scandal emerged Monday during a grilling of the ministry officials by the Public Accounts Committee.

PAC members said the cost of 37 CT scanners was inflated to unimaginable levels.According to the members, scanners were bought at Sh227 million each yet the market price for one is Sh40 million.

The scanners were bought through a contract where the Chinese government is set to pay 80 per cent of the cost while the government will pay the remaining 20 per cent.

The Chinese loan will be paid by tax payers.PAC chairman Opiyo Wandayi said former Health CS Cleopha Mailu should appear before the committee to shed more light on the issue.
