Nyanza Regional Police Coordinator Willy Lugusa said ‘Cobra Squad’ will also supplement efforts of police officers in the city to deal with robberies and other criminal activities.

Mr Lugusa said with the general election looming, there were trouble makers who should be contained.

“We are heading towards an election and we must get well prepared to deal with those who have ill intention to cause chaos,” he said.

He said police will not wait until a wave of violent activities hit the city for them to respond.

'Cobra Squad' will now join the QRT wing of the administration police in tackling crime in the city.

“The new wing will only supplement the existing units like QRT to ensure Kisumu residents are safe from criminals,” he said.

Speaking to the press in Kisumu on Wednesday, Mr Lugusa said crime had drastically reduced in the city.

He attributed the low crime rate to the good working relationship between the public and the police.

Lugusa appealed to the public to continue volunteering information to the police to be able to make Kisumu city crime free.

“I want to thank the public because without them we will not be able to minimise crime rate in this city. My appeal to them is to continue giving confidential information on criminals amidst them,” he said.
