The university's Senate shut down the campus indefinitely following student unrest.
For a better part of Monday morning, students had been engaging police officers in running battles and the reason was not clear.
"Following consultation and assessment of the current situation, the University Senate has resolved to suspend learning and operations indefinitely," Waudo said.
"All students are hereby advised to vacate the university premises noon."
The closure comes barely a week after the University of Nairobi was shut indefinitely over security concerns.
