The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has won a case, in which three voters in Kisumu had sought to compel it to announce presidential results within 7 hours after voting.
Kisumu High Court Judge David Majanja in his ruling said the court has no mandate to direct how IEBC should operate.
Titus Alila, Jackline Otieno and Francis Ogada of Sumawe Youth Group, through their lawyer Kenneth Amondi, argued that delays in announcing the provisional presidential results were a recipe for chaos.
“Delay in the announcement of presidential election results is a harbinger for creating anxiety, confusion and violence in a deeply polarised political environment such as in Kenya,” they argued.
Last week, the Wafula Chebukati led commission won in an appeal where it was seeking an order to have the tender for the Presidential ballot papers started afresh quashed.
The general elections will be held on August 8, 2017.
