A response team has been formed to curb the spread of cholera in Thika Sub County, Thika Level Five Hospital Superintendent Jacob Too has said.

Briefing the media in his office yesterday, Dr Too said that the response team will be tasked with coming up with measures to spread cholera in the sub county.

He said that nurses and doctors at the hospital are alert and ready to deal with any outbreaks.

“A response team comprising of  two doctors, two nurses, a pharmacist and  lab experts has been established to monitor and deal with cholera outbreak,” said Dr Too.

He noted that one serious case has been reported at the hospital with the patient being isolated in a separate Ward.

Dr Too also confirmed that the hospital has admitted 12 people from Waginge, Kikuyu and Kiandutu slums that had cholera symptoms.

He said the patients are being monitored and a report about their cases will be made later.

Meanwhile, Kiambu public health department has dispatched 40 public health officers across the 12 sub counties to monitor the cholera situation.

According to county health executive Jonah Mwangi, the officers will be on the ground and provide the needed expertise.

The health executive said the areas being closely monitored include Juja, Thika, Lari, Ruiru and Kikuyu sub counties.
