The recent anti-IEBC protests is a tactic by Cord to thwart Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid, a section of elders from Nakuru have claimed.
On Thursday, Nakuru Council of Elders chairman Gilbert Kabage criticised Cord leader Raila Odinga for spearheading protests against the IEBC top officials without any basis.
Kabage said Odinga and his co-principals Moses Wetangula and Kalonzo Musyoka are trying to scuttle Ruto’s bid to vie for presidency after Uhuru's tenure ends in 2022.
“These protests have a hidden agenda and we know that the agenda is to try as much as possible to make sure Ruto loses his credibility in 2022 and also Uhuru loses credibility in 2017. But we are solidly behind them and we will not support them,” said Kabage.
He added that at this point in time, they only acknowledge President Uhuru Kenyatta’s leadership and no sideshows would divert their attention.
They vowed to support Ruto in his presidential bid come 2022.
The anti-IEBC protests, which Cord has suspended until June 5, to allow for dialogue, have sparked varied reactions from different sectors in the country, with some supporting Raila while others disparaging him.
