Mombasa governor, Ali Hassan Joho has assured residents that the demonstrations will be peaceful and asked the police to provide security as they present their petition to the IEBC officer in Mombasa.

‘‘We want to hold a very peaceful demonstration. We expect the police to escort us to the IEBC offices so that we can present our petition to the IEBC officials,’’ said Joho.

He urged all those who were planning to participate in the demonstration to be peaceful and avoid clashing with the police to avoid a scenario like last week’s which saw people hurt, arrested and businesses vandalised.

The governor was speaking after attending a church service at Shalom Church.

This is the fourth demonstration that will be held against the IEBC officials but the area has not experienced any demos since they were announced by Cord leaders over four weeks ago.
