Anti Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission protesters were on Monday dispersed after 45 minutes in Athi River town.
They were intercepted by security agents after they barricaded the busy Nairobi - Mombasa Super Highway few metres from Devki stage within the town.
The agitated protesters used construction stones to block the road as they burnt used motor-vehicle tires in the middle of the highway.
They created a traffic snarl up as vehicles sagged on the road.
The officers who included regular and administration police from Athi River in anti-riot gear and armed with fire arms and rungus lobbed teargas canisters at the demonstrators.
Police caught up with some of them who were whipped and let go.
There were no reported arrests.
The officers were headed by area police boss Kizito Mutoro and Administration Police Commander Joseph Matu.
The protestors avoided IEBC offices in the region.
Business went on as usual without any interruption.
No politician accompanied the demonstrators during the protests.
The armed officers kept vigil at the point the whole day as their vehicles patrolled the highway to prevent the demonstrators from blocking the road in other points.
