Starehe MP Maina Kamanda has said that the anti-IEBC protests by Cord have all the ingredients of a coup.
Speaking on Kameme FM during the Arahuka show with Njogu Njoroge on Monday, Kamanda said that Kenyans are aware of the hidden plans by the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy and Kenya shall not experience bloodshed on grounds of political competition.
"In 1982, the former prime minister Raila Odinga was behind the coup to unseat the former president, Daniel Moi. He is now employing similar tactics to clinch the presidency but Kenyans have already known his plans," he said.
Kamanda equated the calls for the disbandment of the IEBC and its commissioners to a trick being followed by Uganda's opposition leader Kizza Besigye.
He said that the current IEBC commissioners were appointed during the grand coalition government where Odinga was a key player and that if he wants re-appoinment of the commissioners there is a proper and constitutional method to do so.
"We heard George Aladwa saying that Odinga has only one bullet that is 2017. He is working tirelessly to unseat President Kenyatta but our country is led by a constitution which they should follow if they need to amend the IEBC. Protests will not work, I assure you," he added.
He further asked the National Churches Council of Kenya (NCCK) not to take a political position concerning the matter since there are proper mechanisms provided by the constitution.
