Nyali MP Hezron Awiti on Wednesday led a group of demonstrators protesting the decision by the Mombasa County Government to demolish kiosks belonging to hundreds of traders at Buxton stage on Monday night.
While warning of more protests should the Hassan Joho-led administration fail to address the matter within the next three days, Awiti who is keen to unseat the incumbent accused the county administration of being anti-business."These traders must be compensated because their income has significantly been affected,” he said.Earlier, Senator Hassan Omar who is also one of Joho's bitter critics weighed into the matter, accusing the county government of harassing hawkers and other small traders. With the Governor's development record already subjected into scrutiny by his political opponents, the latest incident may become a hot political topic that may have far-reaching political implications in his political life.Already, the floods menace in the county has been used by governor hopeful Suleiman Suleiman Shahbal to judge the Governor's four years in office.Shahbal accused Joho of failing to put proper measures to mitigate the effects of too much rains.
