For the better part of Wednesday morning motorists struggled to use Mwongori-Gesima road after locals staged protests over escalating insecurity in the region.
And anti-Fred Matiang'i chants illuminated the surrounding as locals called for his removal over cattle rustling that is yet to be addressed.
"It is sad that the interior minister comes from the neighborhood yet he can't address serious issues like cattle rustling.
"We are now asking the president to consider sacking him. He is notorious in attending political functions yet he cannot address this weighty issue," said Caleb Ratemo.
At some point, motorists were also forced to join the protests with some asking opposition leader Raila Odinga to speak tough against Matiang'i.
Later, the protesters burned Matiang'i's effigy and vowed to 'defend' their territory using all 'options' available.
Riamoni Assistant Chief Bosire Sambu, who represented area County Commissioner Isaiah Naikoru, said the government was in charge.
"The minister has been around and even held meetings. The government is keen to work with the community to bring culprits into books," he said.
The troubled Borabu-Bomet region has often hit headlines over insecurity that is largely precipitated by cattle rustling.
