Shisha and kuber users risk arrest by the Kenya Anti-Narcotics Unit for drug abuse, the National Campaign against Drug Abuse (Nacada) chairman John Mututho has said.
Mututho revealed that the anti-drugs agency handed over the monitoring and evaluation of the two drugs after they realised they were being used as a disguise by hardcore drug users.
Speaking to the press in Naivasha, Mututho claimed that the two substances were being laced with heroin, cocaine and marijuana and were being easily distributed to students.
“We have received serious cases of high school students who became serious drug users. This happened after they were introduced to the drugs through kuber,” he said.
The former Naivasha MP said Nacada will start sensitisation workshops in high schools to create more awareness among students on how people were being lured to drug abuse.
“Majority of the children just find themselves trapped in drug abuse and do not know how they ended up there,” he added.
Lakeview MCA Simon Wanango appealed to Mututho to incorporate local leaders in the fight against illegal drug use at the grassroots level.
“In as much as he is fighting the illegal drinking at a national level, he will need foot soldiers who will convince young people on the effects of alcohol. As MCAs, we know how best to handle the youths and we have more connections with them,” he said.
