Speaking on Saturday during the drumming up of support for Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma, Oparanya asked Nyong’o to instead focus on his current job and leave to younger people his dream of becoming governor.

“We work till midnight. With Nyong’o‘s age... Will he really manage the kind of job we do?” he asked as quoted by the Star.

“Tell Nyong’o to shelve his bid and stick to the Senate role. I am the deputy party leader... Tell him I have said so because he should listen," Oparanya added.

Oparanya said this in Kisumu West during the burial of Kisumu's environment director Thomas Sweta.
