Detectives in Mombasa have arrested an Administration Police officer along side his wife for allegedly being found in possession of fake US dollars.
The officers probed the suspect for hours before accompanying him to his house in Ujamaa area.
Confirming the incident, Likoni DCIO David Siele said after searching through the suspect’s house, police discovered several papers that had not been processed, as well as a box full of fake US dollars.
The suspect, who was later identified as Mohammed Ali Mwasefu, is an AP officer at Kilifi Police Station.
Siele said the detectives arrested Mwasefu at Likoni after luring him to the station to undertake official duties.
The officer is also accused of committing different crimes including supplying criminal gangs in various parts of Mombasa with ammunition.
Siele said preliminary reports indicate that the suspect's wife normally dresses in a buibui before transporting the ammunition across the Likoni ferry channel.
