An Administration Police (AP) officer assigned to Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua shot himself on Monday at the governor’s residence.
The officer identified as Joseph Waicigo was guarding the governor’s residence in Milimani estate in Nakuru.
According to the Standard, Waicigo shot himself using his pistol in unclear circumstances.
He was rushed to the Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital in critical condition, with a bullet lodged in his head.
“It is true the officer shot himself and nobody knows the reasons as he is in critical condition,” a police officer told reporters.
Nakuru OCPD Joshua Omukata declined to comment on the matter when contacted.
A medical officer at the hospital on condition of anonymity told the Standard that the officer had been admitted.
“He was brought in at around 3pm and officers have been swarming the facility to find out what happened,” he said.
