An Administration Police officer who was guarding a business premises in Meru County was on Wednesday stabbed to death and her firearm stolen in an incident of attempted robbery.
After alarm was raised, a mob intervened and burnt to death one of the three robbers attempting to flee the scene on foot.
According to Igoji East MCA John Kireria, the gang attacked the slain officer together with her colleague outside Capital Sacco.
“The three had kept vigil near the sacco [offices] for about an hour before one of them stabbed the female officer and took her gun. She died while being rushed to hospital," said Kireria.
According to the Nation, police are pursuing the other two who escaped with the stolen gun.
"We have information that they have been seen fleeing on foot towards Kanyakine. We are going after them. They did not manage to enter the sacco," he said.
Imenti South police chief John Cheruiyot has confirmed the incident saying police are have not yet arrived at the scene of crime.
