Machakos governor Dr Alfred Mutua had to retract his statement, that Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka was paid the sum of Sh350 million to join the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord).
Mutua made the claims, when he appeared before the Senate Public Accounts and Investments Committee, whose chairman is Kisumu senator Prof Anyang' Nyong'o, November 30, 2016.
He claimed Kalonzo used his position when he was the vice president, to grab parcels of land in Machakos County, and that he was 'bribed' to join Cord.
He said Machakos senator Johnston Muthama was the 'messenger' who delivered the millions to Musyoka.
But when he appeared before the same committee again, whose vice chairman is West Pokot senator John Lonyangapuo, Mutua was asked to ascertain his claims with proven evidence.
Muthama who is also a member of the Committtee, demanded that Mutua retracts the statement, for lack of evidence. (The two Machakos leaders - Muthama and Mutua- have political differences).
The governor further retracted the statement.
He had appeared before the Senate's Public Accounts and Investments committee, December 1 to respond to queries relating to immovable assets in the County.
