Senator Anyang Nyong'o and Nyando MP Fred Outa said police used 'excess force' in dealing with protesters who had gone to Anniversary Towers to demand IEBC officials resign.

"The use of force by the government to disperse the protesting groups is wrong as Cord had been granted permission to protest last week," Nyong'o said.

"Apart from that, Cord supporters have been peaceful in all the protests and the chaos witnessed during Monday's anti-IEBC protest should be blamed on the police. We demand an apology from government over this."

According to the Senator, there was no logic behind the use of 'too much force' by the police in dispersing the crowds across the country as the court last week granted Cord permission to hold the protest.

On his part, Mr Outa blamed the government for using violent means in dealing with protesters.

He said the law is there to protect protesters and wondered which law the government used in handling yesterday's nationwide Cord protests.

"The excessive force which the government employed yesterday in dealing with peaceful demonstrators is regrettable. The law is there to protect the protesters. I don't know why the same law doesn't apply to Cord leadership," said Mr Outa.

The two leaders spoke in Nairobi on Monday after their match to IEBC offices turned chaotic as police who were manning the offices used teargas to disperse the politicians and their supporters.
