In an interview on K24 on Tuesday evening, renowned lawyer James Mamboleo claimed that Kalonzo had led NASA supporters to believe that he would be sworn-in alongside opposition leader Raila Odinga, despite knowing that he would not take part in the ceremony.

Mamboleo was responding to remarks made by Kalonzo after closing a workshop for Wiper women leaders, where he disputed a report published a local daily indicating that he would be sworn on February 28.

“It was wrong for Kalonzo to lie to the public that he was going to take the oath yet it was common knowledge that he would not attend the ceremony and for that he should apologise,” said Mamboleo.

“His absence from the ceremony together with Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula and ANC’s Musalia Mudavadi is actually a blessing for Raila because it abdicated him from any expectations that the three might have had,” he added.

Kalonzo on Tuesday refuted reports that he had set a date for his swearing-in.

“When they said I was going to be sworn in today I don’t know where they got that from. This is a matter that we are going to look at very seriously as the NASA principals and then we will advise this country accordingly,” said Kalonzo.

"What I know is that they cannot arrest Raila probably because he is not vying come 2022 but as for me, their wish is that I am arrested and prosecuted. To be sincere the oathing is against the constitution,” he added.
