Leaders from the vote-rich Rift Valley region have told Parliament Majority Leader Aden Duale to apologize to the Moi family over what they termed Mr Duale's disrespect to Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.

Duale, on Monday during the burial of former Nominated MP Mark on Monday Too publicly showered Deputy President William Ruto with praises- an act that angered many mourners.

Duale who spoke after Mr Moi's speech said Mr Ruto will take over the leadership of the country from President Uhuru Kenyatta after in 2022.

This did not go down well with the mourners who had earlier on cheered Senator Moi as he gave his speech.

Duale has since 2013 been Mr Ruto's close ally, consistently defending the DP over corruption allegations levelled against him.

Senator Moi has hinted he will run for the seat of President in 2022.

With Ruto also on the race, however, this might complicate the equation for the region that seeks to produce a second president after former President Daniel arap Moi.

Senator Zipporah Kittony, Tinet MP David Sitienei, Turbo's Shadrack Busienei, Yusuf Chepkwale and Simon Rotich asked him to apologise to the Moi family and Rift Valley residents.

The leaders said Duale's remarks were disrespectful.

"President Moi is a person who loved peace and unity. We are asking Duale to have respect," a statement they issued read in part.

"His statement can cause violence."
