Needy parents in Kaimwangi ward have been asked by MCA Andrew Njenga Muhu to come forward and apply for bursaries, instead of many shying away from the exercise.
Speaking in Gathage at Maendeleo playground yesterday, Njenga issued county bursary checks to high school and university students.
The MCA noted that with the bursaries now down to the ward level there was no reason for children to lack an education.
"If you stay at home with your problems and do not come to apply for the bursary because you do not want to be branded as poor you will only have yourself to blame. This money is yours and you are not begging for it because it is your taxes. Apply for your grandchildren too who your children could have sired when still unable to educate them," Njenga said.
He further appealed to parents with disabled children in the area not to hide them indoors but to bring their children out so as they could receive the necessary help.
The MCA informed such parents that there was assistance for the disabled provided by the county government but that this assistance could only be available once those children are registered with the relevant county government authorities.
