He said the document was important as it helps in applying for jobs as well during elections.

He was speaking on Saturday during the burial of an ex-KDF officer recently killed in Kano.

Peter Odindo was killed at a pub and his body was found outside the entertainment joint.

"I request you to apply for ID cards," he said.

"Voter registration is coming and I expect no one who is above the age of 18 to give excuses on why they have not applied. The time to prepare for next year's election is now."

"County governments are advertising for jobs. How will you apply if you do not have an ID?"
