Thika West constituency youth officer has urged disabled residents and the youth to apply for the remaining Uwezo funds. Laban Mwangi was speaking to K.N.A in his office where he decried laxity among the unemployed but skilled youths lamenting that they are not business oriented. “The problem we have in Kenya is not lack of capital but lack of business ideas, drugs and negative peer activities stifling the future of the youth. Young people should think of how to establish their tomorrow,” he said. The leader revealed that five million shillings are still lagging in bank and that the youth should grab that opportunity by applying. Mwangi observed that disabled groups in his area were in lesser numbers and that all who applied during the initial program benefitted from the funds. He condemned corruption in Thika which he said is causing harm to the youth in the area. “Corruption has destroyed almost every youngster here, bribery on illicit brew and prostitution menace has led to its upsurge,” he lamented. He pointed out that the current beneficiaries will commence the repayment process come June this year after issuance of the paying code from their headquarter is done. He advised youths to establish change from a personal level and engage in business opportunities. “The youth should invite good company and avoid evil peers; it’s the duty of everyone to make a change from a personal level. It’s never too late to make a change,” he concluded.
