Youths in Nyamira County have been told to apply for Uwezo funds to better their lives and also start up their small business that will empower them economically.
Speaking on Tuesday during the opening of the Technology in Farming week, Nyamira County commissioner Josephine Onunga said the government has set aside billions of shillings for the youths to access funds for their projects.
Onunga said the funds include Women Enterprise and Uwezo funds and individuals and groups should apply for funds and grants to boost their projects.
She asked beneficiaries of the youth fund enterprise fund to repay the money within the given period to ensure the success of the government initiative to economically empower women throughout the country.
The commissioner noted that residents of the area were reluctant to apply for loans due to the perception that their property would be attached and asked them to be bold and take risks, saying that the interest rates in the government initiatives were in the bare minimum for administrative reasons.
She advised loan beneficiaries to strictly utilise the funds for income-generating activities to be able to repay the loans in time.
