Kisii deputy county commissioner Peter Mbugi on Wednesday said the number of hawkers in Kisii is high but most of them have not been legally permitted.
“We have so many hawkers in town but most of them have no permits. They will not be allowed to sell if they will not have working permits because we have realized some pretends to be hawkers but ends up stealing from people especially during the night,” he said.
Mbugi said hawkers from neighboring counties such as Nyamira and Migori counties operating in Kisii County must also process work permits.
“Working permits will help us know who is a thief and who is not. We don’t want a situation where crime suspects are hiding in the hawking businesses,” he said.
