Criminals who are taking advantage of the Cord's anti-IEBC demonstrations to loot from business premises should be punished according to the law, an MP has said.
Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama says the act is uncalled for and thus should face the full force of the law.
Speaking in Nakuru on Sunday, the MP called upon security agencies to ensure public property is protected during the ongoing anti-IEBC demonstrations in Nairobi as well as other towns across the nation.
"We know very well that there are some individuals taking advantage of the demos to loot from business premises in Nairobi and I therefore call upon the police to be vigilant and ensure that those behind the acts face the law," said Arama.
The ODM legislator who has officially said he will seek re-election on a Jubilee ticket come next year, added that he is not against the demonstrations as its stipulated in the Constitution but called on those participating to ensure peace.
According to Arama, peaceful demonstrations do not necessarily involve looting of business premises as was witnessed in Nairobi last week.
His sentiments come even as Cord vowed to hold weekly protests every Monday in its quest to send the IEBC commissioners packing, but Jubilee insists the constitution should be upheld in sacking the IEBC chiefs.
