According to Arama, dark spots have for a long time provided good hideouts for criminal gangs who take advantage of the darkness to pounce on unsuspecting passers-by before disappearing into the dark.

Speaking in Turi on Thursday while accompanying area MCA Michael Wang’ombe on his monthly meet the people tour in his backyard, Arama called on the infrastructure cabinet executive to act fast to guarantee residents of their security.

“Some back streets are partially lit and in some cases completely dark which is a security concern. Small gangs take advantage to terrorise people and rob them,” he said.

“The county government is concentrating in the town centre and other elite estates at the expense of backstreets and other middle-class estates,” Arama noted.

“All this places are habitable with the constant movement of people, good lighting systems will increase confidence in moving from their business premises among residents even during late hours,” he added.

Arama further advised youths to desist from crime and other unwanted activities saying that it was a waste of productive time.

“To me, crime is immaterial because you depend on what is not yours to survive. Be innovative by exploiting your skills to earn a living,” he advised.

He promised to talk to governor Mbugua to see the NYS street lighting project extended to such places to help see the County well lit and safe for all.
