An opposition lawmaker has now accused the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (Iebc) of planning to intentionally sabotage the electronic voting system (e-voting) in order to aid the Jubilee government in rigging.Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati said on Tuesday that the manner in which the electoral body was anticipating failure of the electronic system of voting smacks of a plan to deliberately fail it."No one can be so certain on the failure of these machines unless they have been programmed to do so by individuals keen on helping the Jubilee rig the polls," he told KTN News. The ODM lawmaker further justified his coalition's decision to file a case in court that is seeking to defer the elections should the Iebc resort to the manual voter system in case the e-systen fails. The Iebc on the other hand has maintained that should the e-system then they would resort to the manual voting system to salvage the process.According to the agency's commissioner Roselyne Akombe if the Electronic Voter Identification Devices (EVID) fail on the D-day then they would use the manual register to ID identify and approve voters to cast their ballots. She however expressed optimism that the kits would live up to expectations having been successfully used during the month long voter verification exercise.
