Road accidents in Kenya have been on the rise, with many associating it with reckless driving, bad roads, and corruption. However, this is a contradiction to what the Kalenjin elders believe, specifically on road accidents along the Salgaa/Sachang’wan stretch.

According to the elders, supernatural powers like curses, ghosts or witchcraft could be the cause of deaths along the Salgaa/Sachang’wan stretch. They say two chiefs, who got cursed for betraying supreme chief Koitalel Arap Samoei, died at the exact spot the 2009 tanker exploded.

The two chiefs, Elijah and Melals’ ghost could be hovering around that place seeking revenge.

More so, other elders believe it was a mistake burying all the 2009 oil tanker victims in one grave, and this could be the reason accidents happen at that same spot. “In Kalenjin culture, it is against tradition to bury people in the same grave.

Even husband and wife are not buried in the same grave,” said Bomet elder Joseph Towett.

The big question is what could actually be the reason behind all these accidents?

At the same spot every now and then?

And what will the government; road users and vehicle drivers and motorists do to avoid accidents on our Kenyan roads?
