Government Spokesperson Erick Kiraithe has dismissed remarks by a section of the political divide claiming that woes facing Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho are politically instigated.
Governor Joho has been accused of forging his secondary education academic papers to get admission to the University of Nairobi.
Speaking on Wednesday, Kiraithe noted that academic documents of all Kenyans would be subjected to a thorough scrutiny that would ascertain authenticity.
“The government’s agenda is top — clean the education system and crack down on fake credentials,” he observed.
“It is only fair for Kenyans who spend their money and struggle hard to get good grades. It is wrong for people to acquire good grades through unscrupulous means,” he added.
Kiraithe's remarks were a reiteration of Education PS Belio Kipsang, who denied claims that the state was unfairly targeting Opposition politicians in its crackdown on fake academic papers.
''We are not targeting them (politicians). In fact it is not our job. We are only assisting IEBC. Why should you target anybody? What for?'' He posed.
