Most of the breakfast shows on Kenyan radio stations address family matters.

In fact, passengers are more attracted to vehicles that tune to stations such as Classic FM, Radio Maisha, Capital Fm and Radio Jambo than those that play gospel tunes.

There is no doubt that Kenyans especially women are obsessed with these stations. Yesterday, I was travelling to Machakos town with my wife, yes you read it right ‘my wife’ and she whispered to the driver, “Weka classic Fm.” Before that, there is a passenger who had alighted from the vehicle to board another alleging that he was “allergic” to Rhumba music.

My greatest worry is fake dilemmas discussed on air.

“I bewitched my man to leave his mpango wa kando”, “My husband sleeps with demons” and other stories that you cannot imagine.

Many listeners claim that they listen to these shows to know what is taking place in Kenyan marriages, which I cannot object. Each one of us looks at life from a different perspective.

There are many families that have broken up because of these shows. We cannot also ignore the fact that some families have become stronger because of the same shows.

The interesting thing is that some partners feel that these shows offer the best platform to share their woes even before they speak to their wives or husbands.
