Moi University lecturers have refuted reports that they have reached an agreement with the university management to go back to class.
Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) Moi University Chapter Secretary general Jack-Willis Abok says there has been no agreement and that lectures will only go back to work when the 2017-2021 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) is signed, registered and implemented.
“I want to rubbish fake news that has been running in social media, print, and broadcast media that lecturers have agreed to continue, this is not true since we have not made any local arrangement to get fifty-fifty win-win situation,” said Abok in Eldoret town, Thursday.
He reiterated that they have never encountered with the management at any time whatsoever and that the strike is on and students should not go back to the University until they get official communication from the union leaders.
“We are ready to take even a year for the CBA to be registered and implemented if not business will not be as usual in the university. We will continue paralyzing everything. We are tired with the government's cat and mouse games, we will accept nothing than that,” added Abok.
He advised parents not to take their students to the university saying it would be a waste of resources as nobody will teach them.
Moi University management had earlier this week issued a memo to students asking them to go back to school today (Thursday) as they had agreed with the striking lecturers.
