Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo’s surprise meeting with ODM leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday continues to draw reactions among Kenyans.
Kabogo met with Raila where they discussed on matters unity and reconciliation among Kenyans.
According to political analyst Peter Ngure, the Tuesday meeting between the former governor and Raila is politically symbolic.
Ngure adds that the meeting is a clear indication that Mt Kenya region could warm up to Raila Odinga’s leadership.
The analyst notes that for a long time Mt Kenya has perceived Odinga as an enemy and a bad leader.
He says that Raila is on a mission to rectify the bad perception and use it to market his 2022 presidency.
“Raila Odinga is a clever politician and he could be strategically meeting Mt Kenya leaders to demystify the bad perception the people have about him,” he said.
Ngure said that it will not be a surprise if Kabogo and other Mt Kenya leaders make a u-turn and backs Raila in case he contests in the 2022 presidential election.
He adds that 2022 presidential bid is wide open, adding that no candidate no matter how powerful he or she is guaranteed to win as per at now.
Raila has been warming up to Mt Kenya politicians who were once considered as his political enemies after his handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta a month ago.
Last week, Raila meet with Gatundu North MP who is considered as his critic.
The meetings comes as Raila and Uhuru plan to initiate the national dialogue and reconciliation programs aimed at bring Kenyans together after last year’s divisive general election.
