With the life of the 12th parliament set to resume next week when the new MPs will be sworn in, both Jubilee are NASA elected members are scrambling for key positions in both the Senate and the National Assembly.
NASA lost to Jubilee once again in the race to control both houses after winning few seats and is prepared to sit in the minority side. With the position of the leader of minority and his deputy and that of minority whip being the main positions that are up for grabs, the award of those positions may be pegged on individual member's loyalty to the coalition, the strength of each party in the house, gender balance and regional balance.Likoni MP-elect Mishi Mboko and her Malindi counterpart Aisha Jumwa are the key members of the coalition in the Coast region. For the sake of regional and gender balance, one of them could be appointed to fill the minority whip position, which was initially held by former Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung'aro who was later replaced by his Wundanyi counterpart Thomas Mwadeghu. Both Mung'aro and Mwadeghu lost in their bids for governor position in their respective counties.
