Maseno University students residing in Nyawita are now worried over their safety following robberies by a group of more than 10 people.
The gang is allegedly armed with machetes and forcefully steals from students.
Amos Kibet, a second year statistics student speaks of an ordeal on Sunday where the gang, at around 9pm, got to his house and stole almost all his household items including handsets and money.
“I was cooking at around 9pm. I had not locked my room for it was still early. Before I knew, a group of more than 10 people with pangas were at my house. One of them held the panga to my head and signalled me to be quiet," he said.
He added, “They ordered me to remove the food from the gas cooker which they passed to the group members they were with outside the house. They also took my phone and some of my clothes including shoes and Sh1500 on the table.”
The house is a double room, shared by three people. The other two students locked themselves in the bedroom and started to scream which forced the group to flee.
No one was hurt during the process.
Security has been of concern in Maseno with a similar incident happening to Peter Mueni who was attacked by a gang of more than 10 and robbed of his valuables along Posta Road.
The students are now worried of their safety and want both the school administration and county government to take action.
“I am afraid that they may come back. I had heard that there was such a group but I never imagined this would happen to me,” said Elijah Bundi, another victim
