Armed highway robbers on Tuesday night made away with tyres worth millions of shillings after carjacking a trailer ferrying the cargo to Western Kenya along Naivasha-Mai Mahiu road.
The driver of the trailer which was heading from Nairobi was found on Wednesday morning tied up near Muniu center by a farmer before police came to his rescue.
According to a police source the driver was blocked by a personal car a few kilometers from Mai Mahiu town and the thugs took over.
“The driver was dumped in the gateway car while the other suspects escaped with the trailer where all the tyres were offloaded,” said the source.
The source also noted that the empty trailer was recovered a few kilometers from Naivasha town as police embarked on a major search for the suspects.
“The driver has been rescued and is currently recording a statement at the Naivasha police station as the search for the suspects goes on,” he said.
