The national government has deployed at least 40 police vehicles as well as 10 armoured carriers to Lamu County, in a bid to beef up security.
The efforts are geared towards ensuring that the government flushes out al-Shabaab militants from the Boni forest.
Speaking on Tuesday during a rally held at Uhuru Gardens in Mpeketoni, Deputy President William Ruto disclosed that at least 1,500 military and police officers had already been deployed in different parts of the county, to help boost security of residents as well as their property.
“This is to enable the security team to get rid of al-Shabaab and other criminals who have been terrorising the region and using it as a launching pad for their crimes across the country,” said Ruto, as quoted by the Nation.
“The aim is to subdue the enemy and ensure the environment is safe for our people and their property. Our officers will continue fighting al-Shabaab and any other criminals until we finish all of them,” he added.
Ruto further lauded security units deployed in Lamu for the good work they were doing, and exuded confidence that security across the country had been restored.
