The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) arrested 57 military recruits who had gone for training at the Moi Barracks' Recruits Training School (RTS) on October 30.
Speaking to the Standard Newspaper, Eldoret West Director of Criminal Investigation Officer (DCIO) Ali Samatar said the 57 persons had acquired fake admission letters to get entry to RTS.
"Those arrested are both men and women from different parts of the country. Their letters had anomalies and it was further seen that the letters were not from the State Department for Defence. We are currently working to unearth the source of the letters," said Samatar.
As seen by the Standard newspaper, the letters were printed on a cream piece of paper with a letterhead of the Ministry of Defence and the Court of Arms logo together with a seal on the bottom part.
In the fake admission letters, the recruits were supposed to report to training camp on Sunday October 30 and were later nabbed when KDF officers realised the letters were fake.
Samatar also added that among those arrested were individuals who had gone through the successful recruitment exercise carried out between September 19 and October 18 2016.
The arrested recruits are currently helping the police with investigations on the source of the letters.
