Isiolo County is the latest to join the list of areas affected by fall armyworm infestation.

Some farmers have been forced to replant after losing their entire first crop after overnight attacks by the fall armyworms.

The pest that feeds on anything green was first noticed in Gafarsa and Iresaboru early last month but has now spread to Isiolo Central.

Fall armyworms were early this year detected in western Kenya before spreading to other parts of the country.

The pest has spread to other parts of the country and has been reported in at least 42 counties.

At least 200 acres have been affected in Kakili, Kambi ya Juu and Burat areas with fears that it could spread to the entire county.

Authorities in the area have received 100 litres of pesticides from the Plant Protection Services in Nairobi and are using the chemicals to contain the spread of the pest.

With the losses encountered, most farmers are in despair since they were expecting bountiful yields following the heavy rains witnessed in the region.
