Officers have been deployed in 43 counties across the country to assist maize farmers suffering from fall army worms.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture an estimated 220,000 hectares have been affected.
Army worms along with the lack of rain have threatened to reduced the country's harvest and current consumption which is believed to be 38 million bags.
The government is still evaluating the production of maize and will decide how best to handle the deficit. Experts have cautioned Africa to implement measures to handle the pests or suffer food shortages in the future.
Stanley Kipngetich who is the Assistant Director for Crop Protection has advised farmers on ways to deal with the army worms.
Stanley advised them to spray at daybreak and sunset for proper results.
Regions reported to be affected by the fall army worm include North Rift, South Rift, and Western.
