The Malindi High Court has issued a warrant of arrest against Inspector General of police Joseph Boinnet for contempt of Court.
The IG is wanted for defying a May 10, 2017 court order, that directed him and three others not to interfere with the operations of Mombasa Raha buses (under Star Ways Express Ltd sacco).
Others included in the arrest warrant are National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) chairman Francis Meja, Traffic Department Commandant Jacinta Muthoni and Hared Adan, an enforcement officer with NTSA.
The court had ordered the withdrawal of Star Ways Express Ltd Sacco license after one of their buses was involved in a killer accident in Kiambu in April 2017. At least 20 people died in the accident.
The Sacco, however, obtained a court order barring the police and NTSA from interfering with its buses until the matter was heard on May 29, 2017.
The Sacco moved to court to complain that the police and the transport authority were still holding its buses despite the court order.
