Nominated Senator Elizabeth Ongoro has come out to defend her former party leader Raila Odinga against the incitement to violence allegations.

Speaking to the media on Monday, Ongoro accused the Jubilee government of seeking to sanitise its own reckless remarks by crucifying the Opposition leader.

The Senator questioned why the government remained mum when the leader of the majority in the National Assembly Aden Duale was accused of inciting the expulsion of certain members of community in his Garissa Township constituency.

“The hypocrisy is astounding. Isn’t Duale the very same one who urged his constituents to eject Kambas? Has the Presidency ever taken any action against him despite shouting from the rooftops that they will not stand for hate speech in their ranks?” Ongoro posed.

Duale on Sunday during a political rally at Thika Stadium in Kiambu County, called for Raila’s arrest.

“I want to tell our security agencies to immediately incarcerate Raila to face charges of incitement to violence and hate speech.  We cannot allow such individuals to make such reckless remarks ahead of general elections,” the MP stated.

The Opposition is being accused of inciting the Maasai community against "outsiders" at a rally in Kajiado County, last week.

However, he has dismissed the allegations saying his remarks were taken out of context.
