Uasin Gishu County speaker Isaac Terer has urged security officials to arrest fraudsters posing as government officials who are fleecing the public their money promising to give them jobs
Addressing reporters at the Uasin Gishu county offices in Eldoret on Friday, the speaker decried rising impostor cases.
He observed that some people have perfected the art of impersonation and fleecing the public. The Speaker noted that several complaints have been made to his office in regard to the matter.
“I want to ask the security officials across Uasin Gishu County and mostly in Eldoret town to investigate and arrest people posing as government officials,” he said.
The speaker stated that he has been a victim of impersonation and that the police should treat the matter as urgent.
Terer claims that a middle-aged man posing as an Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officer approached him on Monday demanding money so that he could write a good report about the county assembly.
The man, he said, was smartly dressed and did not look suspicious until when he demanded Sh150,000 from him.
“I would urge the police to launch a probe into them,” he said. The man, who is said to be notorious, was whisked away by detectives for questioning.
Terer said that most impostors impersonate the police, county staff workers, teachers and government surveyors.
The Uasin Gishu county speaker urged the public to be vigilant and be wary of such people.
