Speaking at Gusii social hall on Sunday during a youth concert, Vane Kerubo said the trend was steadily rising in Kisii and Nyamira counties with the young victims dropping out of school while the perpetrators remained scot free.

She also urged community leaders and the church to rally against the vice besides urging NGO to help the government initiate sensitization programs in the region as part of their social responsibility.

“I have seen a number of talented kids dropping out of school due to early pregnancies. What amuses me most is the fact that those responsible have evaded the rule of law and are out their executing the crime with impunity. These people should be in jail,” she said.

“The community and church should join forces to rally against this uncouth behavior. I also urge NGO’s to chip in and help us carry sensitization programs in the two counties. We cannot sit back and watch these crimes being committed,” she said.

The Grove awards nominee asked the police and local provincial administration to work hard and ensure the perpetrators   are apprehended and subjected to court to face prosecution.

“Local provincial administration and the police are always in touch with locals. They know the perpetrators or at least they have a clue. I urge them to step up the efforts and arrest these people making the lives of our children miserable,” she said.
