Kenyans love free things. When free Wi-Fi hotspots were set up in different parts of the country, Kenyan internet users have been making full use of the free internet.
Immediately one reaches within the radius of Wireless internet connection, he or she will switch off data bundles and linger within the area for as long as possible enjoying the free internet.
In an attempt to beef up security and curb cyber crimes, the communications authority of Kenya, CA has proposed a rule that will see public places offering free Wi-Fi installing closed circuit television, CCTV cameras to record users.
The cameras will monitor users and the CA can then later use the recorded videos for investigation purposes. Those who like using free Wi-Fi should now be conscious of hidden cameras.
The CA said that they will also seize this opportunity to arrest those using unregistered sim cards or fake handsets. So as you enjoy that free Wi-Fi in that hotel or office, know that you are being monitored and you might just be arrested if you misbehave.
